Sandhill Cranes

This pair of Sandhill Cranes live at the pond year round. They rely
on the security and safety of the pond to raise their young.

The Cranes built this nest in the middle of the pond. You can learn more about the Cranes breeding process on the Baby Sandhill Cranes page.
You can see the baby all grown up below.

The Cranes peacefully resting in and around the pond. Baby Crane on the left next to the Mama. Watch the Daddy Crane fall asleep. Listen at the end for the large croaking sound of the frogs.

These lovely Cranes forage alongside the pond on a daily basis. They are omnivorous, eating insects, aquatic plants and such in and around the pond.

This pair is content with the pond and its safe environment.

The Cranes mate for life. Here you can see them performing their spectacular mating dance. They curl back, leap into the air, sometimes picking up sticks and throwing them about. They bow to eachother and repeat the performance.

The Sandhill crane raise their young until the baby is an adult
and can hunt for itself. (Baby on the left at 2 months old)

Protect the home of the Frogs!

At night you can hear all the frogs in the pond happily chirping and croaking. Frogs can only survive in a healthy ecosystem. They are major indicators of the health of the environment.
